In the wake of my friend’s suicide and the attempted suicides of several students on campus, three other friends and I put together a week-long educational program to take on the issue. We aimed to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and offer information and outreach. To chronicle our work and provide help even after the week ended, I created a website. You can find more information about the week there. Each of us received the Dean’s Service Award for our work.
One of our most successful events was the Video Love Letter Project. We invited students, faculty and staff to share words of hope and understanding with those suffering from depression and considering suicide. I edited those videos using Final Cut and posted them to YouTube. Below is a selection of videos from the week.
